A positional numeral system with base b represents a number as a weighted sum:

N = d₍ₙ₋₁₎ · bⁿ⁻¹ + … + d₁ · b¹ + d₀ · b⁰

The digit on the far right is called the LSB (Least Significant Bit), and the one on the far left is called the MSB (Most Significant Bit).

Example: 4705₁₀ = 4 × 10³ + 7 × 10² + 0 × 10¹ + 5 × 10⁰
